EPOXI and a New EPOCh of Extrasolar Planet Exploration
Tim Livengood, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center EPOXI and a New EPOCh of Extrasolar Planet Exploration - EPOXI is the very first space mission whose job is to explore the planets of other stars. This is remarkable enough, but even more remarkable is that it uses a recycled spacecraft, Deep Impact, to do something new and unanticipated. Take one part EPOCh (Extrasolar Planetary Observation and Characterization) and one part DIXI (Deep Impact Extended Investigation), mix them together, and you get a single stronger mission to learn about what the universe holds in store for us, relatively nearby and also very far away. |
