Big Isle Robotics Tournament

The inaugural Big Island First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Tournament was held on Saturday, January 14th at the Wainaku Gym. About a hundred people came out to watch three teams compete in several categories including robot design, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship and documented research. Three Big Island teams with members aged 9 through 14 were fielded in this competition: Nawahi Hawaiian immersion school in Kea`au (coach Loke Roseguo), Intimidating Midgets from Ha`aheo Elementary School (coaches Cindy Inoue and Paula Thomas) and the independent Menehune Midgets (coaches Suzy Sanxter, Hazel Foronda and Hannah Rojeski).  Many thanks to Suzy Sanxter for putting the event together, Sue Akimseu of HELCO for scorekeeping, Dale Olive as MC and Eric Hagiwara, Kiyo Olive and Lester Rubenfeld as judges, Jordan Olive and Shaelee Nakaishi as reset/timers.
