June 13-16 - HYR Teacher Institute
June 18-29 - HYR session 1 FULL
July 2-13 - HYR session 2 FULL
The Hilo Youth Robotics summer enrichment program will return to Connections PCS in the old Kress Building at 74 Kamehameha Avenue, with instruction by Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and local educators and students. The program for youngsters ages 9-13 features two separate, two-week, half-day workshops using the Lego Mindstorms RCX and NXT robotics platforms. Kids will learn to build stable robotics objects out of Lego construction kits that include motors and specialized bricks that can see, feel and think. They will also learn
how to give their robots intelligence by programming them with a graphic, icon-based application on a PC. In addition, HYR provides teacher (and parent) training in robotics instruction in parallel with the student workshops. Robot build instructions, powerpoint presentations, curricula and robotics kits are provided to participants to assist in building capacity at the school and community level to provide robotics programs both in-class and after-school.
