The Big Island of Hawaii is the youngest and largest of the major Hawaiian Islands. It is twice as large as all of the other islands combined. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park contains Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Currently, Kilauea is continuing to increase the size of the Big Island as it pours lava into the sea.
The Big Island is a study in diversity. There are snow covered mountains minutes away from beaches covered with white, black and green sand. There are lush tropical rainforests as well as barren lunarscaped deserts. Rolling pasturelands give way to lava fields. Laid back culture flourish in small towns, while state of the art technology and research takes place at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Mauna Kea Observatories. Yes, you could say that the Big Island has it all.
