AstroDay featured over 30 exhibits, demonstrations and activity areas throughout Prince Kuhio Plaza, including the observatories on Mauna Kea, Educators, Students, Hawaiian culture groups and commercial vendors. National Anthem by Divina Maria Medeiros, musical performances by John Keawe, George Kahumoku, and Carlos Andrade. Our inaugural AstroDay Excellence in Teaching award was presented to UHH Astronomy professor Dr Richard Crowe and Hilo Intermediate School teacher Pascale Pinner. Kids who could answer a simple astro-quiz were treated to whispy cotton candy, courtesy of Subaru Telescope Student science projects from schools around the Big Island were featured at AstroDay Haaheo Elementary Menehune Midgets Robotics team displayed and demonstrated their project Solar observing, Hilo style. Hilo Astronomy Club president Dave Brenned demonstrating the technique with aplomb
Kini Burke and Alex Tejada displayed and demonstrated their craft in the Ka Ho`onau Loina booth Keaka Mo`ikeha, of the Makali`i Voyaging Canoe program in front of a scale model of the Hokulea Mitchell Lasco, Special Ed Counselor at Kalaniana`ole School was the grand prize winner of a Meade ETX90 telescope Kainana Francisco, Yoshimi Okoshi and Richard Tamae holding down the fort at the Distribution Center - Thanks guys!

The Mars Rover, operated by the IfA and IRTF challenged youngsters to drive the robot on a simulated martian terrain to find targets using only video from a camera mounted on the robot. The IfA Cryogenics demo booth, with a youngster about to smash a penny to smithereens after being supercooled It may be a little difficult to spend this penny at your local store

Man, I want one of those!
