This was a pictorial story of an adventure of mind, spirit and body that took place on and about the island of Hawaii in the summer of 2005. Although the physical trip took a group of 15 men about 200 miles around the southern coastline of the Big Island on a sea trial, the larger journey is one of rediscovery of the ancient skills of wayfinding. A journey that is only just beginning for the Hokualaka`i voyaging canoe, her crew and support staff.
Mahalo nui to my crewmates Tava, Snake, Mona, Kaimana, Ikaika, Kekua, John, Matt, Yoshi, Kualii, Jim, Francis, Dustin, and Captain Chad Kalepa Baybayan. Also mahalos to Kalani, Kaleo, Lyle, Kini, Aloe, Ah Lan, Henani, Maka`ala, Gary, `Olu, Maika`i, Delta, Kawika and Maile. E kala mai if I have forgotten anyone.
Good Luck on the rest of the sail - Ho`opomaika`i |
