Hokualaka`i Training 2007
Training Sail February 18, 2007 • Outside Hilo, Hamakua Coast
The Poho Na Pe`a program of the Hokualaka'i continues in the month of February with a training sail a few miles outside of Hilo and the Hamakua coast. While the weather was overcast, it did provide a couple of squalls which filled our sails. Enjoy the pictures and movies of the day, including those of some kohola who kept us company.

Training Sail January 20, 2007 • Outside Hilo, Hamakua Coast
In preparation for the Poho Na Pea program, the crew of the Hokualaka`i gathered at Hilo's voyaging canoe at Radio Bay for a training sail outside Hilo toward the Hamakua coast. The day started with clear, sunny skies - a good omen, albeit without much wind. But by the time Captain Kalepa Baybayan addressed the crew with a calendar of activities and a pule and oli, a small squall outside Hilo provided the wind we needed to fill Hokualaka`i's sails. The day was a wonderful gathering of familiar faces and a few new ones.
