An interested audience sits in raptured fascination to the panelists
David Jewitt begins the session with his review of discovering the first KBO in 1992
Astronomers from Mauna Kea Observatories and the University of Hawaii at Hilo sat on a panel to discuss the recent International Astronomical Union resolution defining solar system bodies to a crowd of 60 at the Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo. After a miscued screening of the BBC documentary "Bye Bye Planet Pluto", a lively discussion ensued with perspectives from Michihiro Takami - Subaru Telescope, David Jewitt - Institute for Astronomy, David Tholen - Institute for Astronomy, Jay Farihi - Gemini Observatory, Bill Heacox - University of Hawaii at Hilo Physics and Astronomy, Inseok Song - Gemini Observatory, and moderated by Richard Crowe - Imiloa Astronomy Center / University of Hawaii at Hilo Physics and Astronomy. We've probably not heard the last of this debate.
Panelists and the public congregated after the event.
