Journey Scientists in the Classrooms - January 22-26

|
| The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy brought a meteorite collection and after a brief introduction on rocks from Earth and space, we had the students become scientists as they observed their meteorites in groups. We provided magnets, magnifying glasses and digital scales to observe, measure and test their meteorites before reporting on their research to the other science groups in class. With only 45 minutes per class for four different grades, it was difficult to go into any depth of instruction, but what we hoped to do accomplish was to initiate some curiosity in science and inspire some students to pursue additional knowledge on their own. We also encouraged the students and their teachers to invite us back for follow up visits. |
