Journey Through the Universe 2008
February 1 - 8, 2008, Hilo, Hawaii
The fourth year of the Journey Through the Universe program on Hawaii Island. The program engages our community in sustained science, math and technology education in a celebration of human exploration: how we have come to know what we know about the Universe, and the joys of learning.
Journey Scientists in the Classrooms - February 4-8
The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy fielded five faculty, staff and grad students into classrooms around East Hawaii and Puna during the week. Dr Paul Coleman, Dr Colin Aspin, Joseph Masiero, Kenyan Beals and Gary Fujihara helped to communicate astronomy to K-12 students with Powerpoint presentations and activities like assembling cardboard telescopes to observe celestial objects that were hung on the walls. We received assistance from "OneWeekJob.com" Sean Aiken, who is looking to find a career he can be passionate about while traveling across the country. Kenyan and I are sharing our passion for communicating astronomy to our local students and members of the community this week.
