The fifth year of the Journey Through the Universe program on Hawaii Island. The program engages our community in sustained science, math and technology education in a celebration of human exploration: how we have come to know what we know about the Universe, and the joys of learning.
Journey Scientists in the Classrooms - February 9-13
The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy fielded five faculty, staff and grad students into classrooms around East Hawaii and Puna during the week. Dr Paul Coleman, Dr Colin Aspin, Kenyan Beals and Gary Fujihara helped to communicate astronomy to K-12 students with Powerpoint presentations and activities like observing, measuring and classifying meteorites.

Chamber of Commerce Social Event - February 10, Hilo Yacht Club
The Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaii sponsored a social event for the Journey Through the Universe program at the Hilo Yacht Club. The event was well attended and included many members from the community.
