The IfA SEPO team participated in the 2005 Kea`au High School Career Fair with an exhibit that several students and teachers described as having the "best stuff ". We featured a Kumulipo video produced by the AstroRangers playing on a Mac Mini, a voyaging canoe slide show playing on an iPod output to a television, a display panel with posters, literature, UHH Physics and Astronomy program brochures and an optics challenge with a floating pig. We were able to interact with many students, teachers, and others in the community. I think the most noticeable difference since our last visit was the number of girls interested in pursuing a career in science or technology (and could reasonably be attributed to Koa Ell for drawing them to our booth).
The biggest draw to our exhibit was the magic pig. We challenged students to grab the pig, then explain why they couldn't
Gary telling a good joke: "Did you hear the one about the astronomer who ..."
These girls seemed very interested in their futures and spent a considerable amount of time with Koa.
