| When we were contacted by Make-A-Wish Hawaii about facilitating a tour of Mauna Kea for a wish child, we jumped at the opportunity to help fulfill a dream. Our young wish child, Chris Bolen has a positive, uplifting outlook on life, despite life-threatening health complications that require crippling therapy. An amazing guy, it was truly cathartic spending time with Chris and his loving and supportive mom and dad. Chris wants to be a photographer when he grows up, and hearing him speak of his passions leave no doubt in my mind he will achieve all he sets out to attain. |

| We would like to acknowledge and thank Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and Remi Cabanac for providing a great tour of the summit facility and gifts for the family; Gemini Observatory and Peter Michaud for providing gifts; Dan Birchall for providing a tour of the "88" , a top off TEK, and a photographic gift; Subaru Telescope and Saeko Hayashi for gifts; Joint Astronomy Centre and Wendy Light for gifts; Caltech Submillimeter Observatory and Diana Bisel for gifts; Mauna Kea Support Services and Joyce Merrick for gifts; Visitor Information Station and Ron Koehler and David Byrne for gifts (thanks also to Patty and Erik); W.M. Keck Observatory and Sarah Anderson for gifts; and Koa Ell for prepared makana. We would also like to thank Wayne Fukunaga of Star Gaze Hawaii for coming up with his scopes and equipment. Even though we got weathered out at the VIS, Wayne and his wife brought the family down to Mauna Kea State Park, where conditions were good enough for stargazing. Shaka Brah! | |||||||||||||||||
