Opportunities Expo 2006
Sangha Hall, March 9. 2006

Torrential rain couldn't dampen the spirit of dozens of Hawaii Island businesses and organizations or 10th and 11th grade students who flocked into the Sangha Hall. The UH Institute for Astronomy was represented with assistance of Machinist Richard Shelton, Community Outreach Assistant Koa Ell, UH88 Telescope Operator Dan Birchall, IRTF Student Intern James Ah Heung, and Visitor Information Station staff Anne Michels. Mahalo nui to these members of the Institute for Astronomy Ohana who helped share with our young people some of the career opportunities in high-tech and science on the mountain.

There appeared to be a steady flow of students and teachers around our booth
Koa sharing information about the programs the Outreach office offers James Ah Heung shows students some of the electronics he works on at IRTF Girls can be machinists and engineers too! Richard showing some of the tools of the trade
