IfA Outreach Presentation

The University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy (IfA) Science Education and Public Outreach (SEPO) Office held an special informational presentation to many representatives of the community on Friday, August 26, 2005 at the IfA Hilo auditorium. Audience consisted of members of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii, Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Kanoelehua Industrial Area Association, Rotary Clubs of Hilo Bay, South Hilo, Future Flight Hawaii, Mauna Kea Observatories, Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii at Hilo, Department of Education, Kamehameha Schools, St. Joseph School, Alu Like, Na Pua No`eau, Hawaii Tribune-Herald, Hawaiian Electric Light Company, Hawai`iana `o Honomu and the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii.

After a brief overview of SEPO's outreach programs in the community by Gary, the floor was turned over to Community Outreach Assistant Koa Ell. Koa gave a wonderful presentation on past and present uses of Mauna Kea, the bridging of science and culture, and her activity within the community.
