Science and Technology Day at the Capitol

The UH Institute for Astronomy (IfA) was among nearly a hundred exhibitors at the Science and Technology Day at the State Capitol Wednesday, March 29th. The event drew representatives from a diverse set of high-tech industries with operations in the islands. Mike Maberry - Associate Director of External Affairs, Karen Rehbock - Assistant to the Director and Gary were on hand to represent the IfA at the exhibit. Gary also gave a presentation in the Chamber Auditorium on the student employment program at the IRTF that provides valuable work experience for Hawaii Community College and University of Hawaii at Hilo students in their field of study. Lucio Ramos - Subaru Telescope Electronics Technician who is a product of the intern program took the lecturn to talk about the impact of his experience as an intern at IRTF. Lucio also talked about his current position at Subaru Telescope, where he has implemented a similar internship program and supervises three community college students.
